The ABCs of a building a Makerspace

“Build it, and they will come.” You may know the quote from the movie “Field of Dreams,” without actually having seen the movie. Haunting whispers from the corn fields fills the head of Kevin Costner’s character, Ray Kinsella.  We aren’t whispering to you. The corn fields are not talking to you.  If your dreams are haunted with laser cutters and 3D printers, we feel your pain. Honestly, we dream about laser cutters, 3D printers, and building an awesome maker-space where you can join us in fun discoveries of learning and making.

You may be an early adopter. You love the ‘new,’ and you get it. You want to be there at the beginning, this is your chance. You may be or want to be a builder, it could be furniture, Legos, or robots, nonetheless we are looking for you. We are also reaching out to builders of good will, networks, communities, and skills. We are all collaborators at one time or another, in-person or on the web. Creating our dedicated, well equipped maker-space requires collaboration now.

The MakerLab NW Board of Directors is reaching out to you, fellow maker and curious thinker, and asking you to become a charter member of a maker-space, because we believe that you want a maker-space in Shoreline, WA, as much as we do. Please visit the “Join Us” page to join. If you aren’t ready to commit to a membership, any donation helps.
