Apron Workshop



Come join us at MakerLabNW as we guide you through making a festive craft apron. Perfect for crafts, painting, woodworking and of course baking!
using canvas, bias tape, and a sew machine we’ll work with you to make your own masterpiece.
we will provide the materials, however if you are wanting to bring your own please make sure you have at least 2 yards of your choice fabric.

Refund policy: We currently do not offer refunds or transfers between classes. You may, however, transfer your ticket to another person who is 18 or older. If you need help finding someone to take your spot, you are welcome to post in the class event on our Facebook page, or ask us to share your email address with the class waitlist.

For your personal safety, please wear closed-toe shoes, tie long hair back, and avoid any dangling jewelry or baggy clothing.

You do not need to bring a printed ticket.

Sun Nov 12 – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Cellular communications with Arduino

In this workshop, we will learn how to use popular Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular modules with the Arduino to connect our Arduino projects to other devices, including local networks, smartphones, and the Internet. We will cover among others the ESP8266, ESP32, Bluetooth Classic modules like the HC-06, and several Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and cellular module options suitable for use with Arduino boards.

Come to the workshop if:

• You want to learn about the various popular communications modules that are available for makers.

• You want to gain hands-on experience building things with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular connections

• You want to acquire a key building block in converting your projects into fully connected devices in the age of the Internet of Things (IoT) creations

• You want to get started with building smartphone apps wirelessly connected to your Arduino


• Introductions

• How to program the exchange of data between a PC and Arduino, and between an Android smartphone and Arduino using popular Wi-Fi modules

• How to program the exchange of data between a PC and Arduino, and between an Android smartphone and Arduino using popular Bluetooth modules

• How to use cellular modules for sending and receiving text messages from/on the Arduino

• How to connect the Arduino to cloud data storage services

Note: instructor will have Arduino boards and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular modules samples for participants to use in the workshop

Saturday Nov 11 – Laser Cutting 101: Basics of using a CO2 laser

This workshop is for using the Full Spectrum CO2 laser.

It will cover:

– Laser safety

– What can and can’t be cut in the CO2 laser

– How to set up the laser

– How to bring cut files in to the laser

– How to bring DXF files in to the laser

– Raster x Vector cutting

– Building boxes (finger joints)

– Where to get wood and plastic for lasering 18+years old only.
